At East Coast Security Systems, we want our clients of all ages in Washington, NC, Outerbanks, NC, and Washington, NC to feel safe and secure. Because property crime is the second largest crime committed against seniors, we wanted to address this issue and provide some suggestions to make our senior customers safer. Below, is a list of safety tips with seniors in mind:
- Doors: Always lock your doors, even if you feel that you live in a safe neighborhood. Make sure that your door has a peephole to let you see who is outside before you open the door. Lastly, make sure that you have a solid wood or metal door.
- Keys: Don’t leave a key hidden under a mat or a flower pot. These are popular hiding places and easy for burglars to find. Instead, leave a key with a neighbor or family member.
- Outdoor lighting: Make sure that the exterior of your home is well-lit. Sensor lighting is especially helpful because it lets homeowners know if someone is close by.
- Home security systems: Even with all of these safeguards in place, it is still important to have a home security system installed. Not only do these systems help with theft prevention, they can also provide help during medical emergencies or fires.
