So, what are some ways that you can childproof your home to keep those little kiddos safe and sound?
- One of the more obvious danger zones in the home are areas where children can be exposed to flames, such as candles, fireplaces, and stovetops.
- Be sure to keep all candles, lighters, and matches well out of reach of those little hands.
- When it comes to your fireplace, install a gate as well as padding for sharp edges to keep children at a safe distance.
- For stovetops, you can install caps over your knobs to prevent little hands from reaching up and turning on the heat.
- Outlets are another danger zone for little kids. Be sure to cover outlets with safety covers and to keep any power strips out of reach.
- Make sure that all furniture is secured to the wall. This means that your television is mounted, any tall furniture like bookshelves and dressers are secured to the wall, and all pictures and wall decor are safely fastened to the wall and out of reach. Also, cover any sharp edges of furniture with padding.
- Make sure that you secure all cabinets that hold anything you don’t want your child to get a hold of such as cleaning products, toiletries, medicine, or tools.
- Keep small objects out of reach for children as these can easily become choking hazards.
