- You follow the same schedule every day. Most burglars prefer daytime when people are likely to be at work to burglarize a home. So don’t leave at the exact same time every day and come home during lunch from time to time to make your routine less predictable.
- You regularly keep your doors and windows unlocked. This seems like an obvious precaution, but many times burglars don’t even have to pick locks or break doors; they simply walk in. Back doors are especially a target for burglars because people are more likely to forget to lock these doors than their front door.
- Your backyard is easily accessible. If you don’t have a fence around your backyard or if your backyard is poorly lit, you are more susceptible to burglary. Backyards are a burglar’s favorite area to enter because this area attracts less attention from neighbors.
